14 day Complete Kimberley 4WD Tours Details

Day 1 – Depart 8am to travel via the vast savannah grasslands, majestic Boab trees and powerful mountains of the Western Kimberley crossing the Fitzroy River near Willare, with morning tea under one of the Kimberley’s biggest boabs. We are on the Savannah Way heading for Fitzroy Crossing.  We take a look around Fitzroy Crossing whcih is an education and supply centre for surrounding cattle stations and Aboriginal communities, and enjoy lunch here by the Fitzroy River. Our journey continues via Mesa & mountain country and we take a photo stop at the unusual Ngumban Cliffs, and a tea break at the scenic and bird lovers Marys Pool on the Margaret River. Halls Creek is next with its gold mining history including the tale of Russian Jack, before we arrive at our Mabel Downs Station accommodation. Large, ensuites safari tents or comfy camping available. If choosing departure from Darwin departure is 7am to Kununurra via road or fly option to Kununurra available. L,D

Day 2 – Today we enter the Bungle Bungles in Purnululu National Park to marvel at this high energy amazing orange and black striped beehive landscape formed by giant river systems. Walk the spectacular Cathedral Gorge and Piccanninny Creek and after lunch a walk in Echidna Gorge. Optional scenic helicopter flight available. Enjoy a spectatcular scenic flight from the Bungle Bungles over the Ragged Ranges, Argyle Diamond Mine, Ord River Scheme, Lake Argyle and on to Kununurra meeting the tour vehicle for overnight in Kununurra.  Day 3 Kununurra is a prospecous productive centre of mining, agriculture, toursim and Aboriginal
art. We stock up here and check out the local Aborigibnal art galleries before headding to Wyndham
and lunch at Five Rivers Lookout. over the spectcular Cambridge Gulf. After lunch its then Parry’s Lagoon for the rich wetlands bird life including Jabirus and Brolgas. We travel  the Gibb River Rd, to El Questro’s Emma Gorge resort. An optional walk to Emma Gorge sacred waterhole and a swim in the refreshing waters is  available (time permitting). El Questro is a million acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery, rivers and gorges. Its here

where we enjoy a relaxing
evening

Day 4 – This morning soak up the relaxing Zebedee hot springs, before exploring more of the El Questro treats
including El Questro Gorge and Moonshine Gorges, a cruise in the Chamberlain River Gorge and viewing from Pigeon Lookout over the Pentecost River Overnight at El Questros resort. BL. Dinner at restaurant own expense.

Day 5 – Today we journey the  the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via Cockburn Range, to cross
the mighty Pentecost River and view from a high vantage point. Take a break at Home Valley Station and enjoy
the Durack River crossing. We visit Home Valley Station and view Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina and Bradshaw’s (Gwion Gwion). Enjoy lunch and optional Devonshire Tea at Ellenbrae Station. We 
take a right turn at the Kulumburu Road for a another water crossing of the Gibb River  before we stop at  the famous working cattle station, Drysdale River Station for overnight. BLD

Day 6 – After breakfast we travel north  through spectacular vegetation including cycads, pandanas palms and rainforests and ford the King Edward River before our overnight on Mitchell Plateau. Here we enjoy the waterfalls, swim and visit a vast gallery of Aboriginal rock art including Wandjina & Bradshaw / Gwion Gwion. BLD

Day 7 – Today we traverse the Mitchell Plateau to Mitchell Falls and do the easy 2 hour downhill walk via spectacular swimming pools and waterfalls. View several large galleries and rock art sites with Wandjina and Bradshaw / Gwion Gwion  rock art sites (including Thylacine / Tasmanian Tiger rock art ) and swim in these beautiful clear fresh waters.  This is one of the most remote areas of Australia. At Mitchell Falls base we have a couple of hours to relax and swim in these pristine, energised waters. We take the easy way out with the 
thrill
of a spectacular helicopter  flight ride over the Mitchell Falls  & Merton Falls for a once in a lifetime view of this vast landscape and coastline.Options also available for extended flights to coastal areas (need to pre book with Spirit Safaris). Overnight on Mitchell Plateau at our King Edward River base (or accommodtion if pre arranged).  BLD

Day 8 Travel today is down the Gibb River Rd with morning tea by the Drysdale River – a great opportunity for bird watching or just enjoying the water and pandanas palms. Back on the Gibb River Rd  we cross the Hann River visit Barnett River Gorge  and Mt Barnett Roadhouse and After lunch take a short and easy walk to the beautiful
Galvans Gorge
with an optional swim. We leave the Gibb to detour to Mt Elizabeth station for overnight. BLD

 Day 9 More great rock art today in Wunnumurra Gorge with a spectacular waterfall and a deep pool and big Wandjina rock art. We travel on  visiting Adcock Gorge (time permitting) to arrive at Mornington Wilderness Sanctuary and in the afternoon visit Cadjeput and Bluebush swimming holes before sunset viewing of the surrounding mountain ranges. In the evening join Mornington’s Naturalist Guide for a talk and  slideshow for an insight into the work of the owners, Australian Wildlife Conservancy and the unique values of Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary. Day 10– An early morning 1 hour walk allows us to see the most animal and birdlife on Annie Creek, including perhaps the endangered Gouldian Finch before we take the scewnic 25 km drive to Dimond Gorge viewing majestic geological formations and the highlight – the view from the lookout at Dimond Gorge. This is a great
swimming area, or take a canoe paddle the 2 km through Dimond Gorge. In the afternoon relax in your bungalow or our campsite by Annie Creek before overnight at  Mornington Wildlife Sanctuary. BLD

 Day 11 We travel through spectacular Kimberley scenery to Imitji Aboriginal community and Imitji store, then enter the King Leopold Conservation  Area and head for Bell Gorge for a short walk to this spectacular waterfall and swimming hole. We find a great place to lunch and relax, and nearby is Silent Grove where we settle in for the evening or at the Bell Gorge / Imitji safari camp accommodation (if accommodation upgrade isbooked) for overnight.  Day 12 – We travel through the spectacular scenery of the King Leopold Ranges and pass through the Napier Range, with the rock face likeness of Queen Victoria’s Head  before morning tea, then Windjana Gorge National Park and a walk in  Windjana Gorge with the abundant wildlife and numerous freshwater crocodiles
in this eerie, ancient seabed environment.
We then follow the Devonian Reef / Napier Range road to Tunnel Creek National Park with its many boab trees and picturesque complex shapes to Tunnel Creek. Here we don our torches and shorts to wade through this icredible underground river system full of stalagmites and stalagtites
and  ebven an undergound spring. This is where the Aboriginal freedom fighter Jandamarra and the Bunuba
Resistance was centred in the 1890, depicted in 2 novels and a recent stage production. After our walk in the shady and refreshing underground system, we follow the ranges and cross through them again, to arrive Fitzroy Crossing where we visit the local Aboriginal art centre before overnight. Day 13 After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Geike Gorge Fitzroy River cruise and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide.  Enjoy a morning cuppa by the river, and comfortable highway cruising toward Derby, to visit the famous prison Boab tree, and then Derby highlights including the Derby wharf (30 ft tides!) on King Sound, the worlds longest cattle drinking trough, the new Mowanjum Aboriginal Art Centre (meet the artists, learn and buy from source) at Mowanjum Aboriginal Community. Time permitting we visit the Derby wetlands for last looks at Jabiru & Brolgas.  Depart Derby for Broome to arrive late afternoon to enjoy sunset at Cable Beach over the Indian Ocean, and possibley an optional camel ride. After tasty treats on Cable Beach, we enjoy a meal at a local restaurant before overnight in Broome.

Day 14  –  Celebrate with a  morning swim and breakfast at Cable Beach before flights home, or Options include a scenic flight to the Horizontal Waterfalls or visit the Willie Creek Pearl Farm, or simply shop or relax in Broome’s balmy climate. Tour ends after breakfast at 10 am. You can store your gear with us to enjoy the day, before flights home or alternate destinations. Consider travelling with us to Alice Springs via the Tanami Track, Wolfe Creek Crater and remotte Aboriginal art centres.  B
