Aboriginal Art Centre Tours

Day 1 – From Alice Springs meet flights around 1230 pm and visit Emily Gap with significant Aboriginal rock art in the afternoon, & / or local art galleries. Overnight Alice Springs.

Day 2 – From Alice Springs to Utopia region communities and Ali Curung. Overnight Wauchope near the Devils Marbles.

Day 3 – Visit the Karlu Karlu / Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve on the way to Tennant Creek view more Utopia and regional  art works. The Nyinkka Nyunyu Art & Culture Centre ( pronounced ny-ink-a ny-oo-ny-oo) in Tennant Creek displays numerous Utopia region artists work and is a significant and informative cultural centre. We depart Tennant Creek after lunch for Tillmouth Well and the Wirmbrandt Gallery (Aboriginal Art) on the Tanami Track.

Day 4 – Visit Warlukurlangu arts at Yuendumu then Papunya & Haasts Bluff art centres before overnight at Glen Helen.

Day 5 – Option to complete Alice Springs at lunchtime after visiting the Ochre Pits and Ormiston Gorge. Alternatively travel via Mereenie Loop, Gosse Bluff and Kings Canyon (1 hour gorge walk option) to Curtin Springs for overnight and sunset viewing of Mt Connor (Atilla).

Day 6 – Depart for APY lands (Aṉangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara lands) and visit Aboriginal Art Centres at communities including Amata, Ernabella, Fregon, and Iwantja to overnight at Marla.

Day 7 – From Marla we travel to Coober Pedy where we can visist more art works and stunning opals and undergraound museums and displays. See the opalised marine life and plesiosaurs that inhabited this region when it was covered by ocean. Option to return to Alice Springs by coach arriving 1:30pm . Alternatively, if Lake Eyre is flooding we can travel from Marla via Coober Pedy, William Creek, (Optional Lake Eyre flight) Oodnadatta Track and Marree (including visit to Marree Arabuna Aboriginal cultural centre) Overnight Marree

Day 8 – From Marree or Coober Pedy, travel via Port Augusta to Adelaide – . Day 1 Arrive Uluru (Ayers Rock) and optionally visit Uluru, relax at the resort, or visit Yulara resort art galleries or optionally visit the Anangu cultural centre and Maruku arts centre. Overnight at Yulara resort. Tour departs day 2 for Kings Canyon for Valley or Canyon walks, and /or Kathleen Springs walk. Tanami Track Aboriginal Art Tours … Highlights

One of Australia’s most remote outback routes – connecting 1/2 the country, crossing 2 states, NT to WA – from the Red Centre to the Indian Ocean – Alice Springs to Halls Creek and on to Broome.

Day 1 – Depart Alice Springs for Tanami Track at 1pm (we meet 1pm flight from Sydney or other ports). A three hour journey heads you toward some of the remotest country in Australia. Enjoy the rich collection of Aboriginal art available here at Tillmouth Wells – including from Mt Allan, Papunya, Yuendumu. Overnight Tillmouth Wells camp roadhouse & campground.

Day 2 – Visit the world famous Warlukurlangu artists at Yuendumu, and the Papunya Tula artists at Papunya. Meet the artists at work. You can buy their art directly from source. After a good connection with the locals, we “up the track” through this extraordinary and remote country – by the great Tanami and Granites gold mines, and old abandoned wells from gold rush & cattle droving days via Rabbit Flat Roadhouse, then to our remote overnight stop.

Day 3 – Arrive at Balgo Art Centre in the remote Balgo Community near Lake Gregory and meet the Warlayirti artists at work. Enjoy the warm local hospitality and the rich and unique Aboriginal art pieces on display – ready for you to purchase at best bargain rates direct from the source if you wish. Depart Balgo for nearby Billiluna Aboriginal community and cattle station for a look around then a short drive to the amazing Wolfe Creek Crater – the worlds second largest meteorite crater where the rainbow serpent entered the Earth. We can take a walk in the crater or enjoy the view from the crater rim. Overnight at majestic Wolfe Creek crater.

Day 4 – View the sunrise over Wolfe Creek Crater – or enjoy a sleep in – before we head for a brief stop at Halls Creek (more wonderful Aboriginal art) then Yiyili Community & the Laarri Aboriginal Art centre (beautiful colorful & contemporary artworks here – time permitting) at Louisa Downs station on to Fitzroy Crossing via spectacular McClintock & Mueller mountain ranges, and vast cattle stations (including SR Kidman & Co’s “Ruby Plains”) for overnight at Fitzroy Crossing.

Day 5 – Enjoy a relaxing Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. After a morning cuppa, and some comfortable highway cruising we enjoy lunch under one of the biggest boab trees in the Kimberley on the Savannah Way. On through stunning mesa landscape and rich grasslands we arrive in Broome for sunset celebration at Cable Beach and an optional swim in the Indian Ocean watching the sunset.

Day 6 – Breakfast at Cable Beach – Tour ends 10am after breakfast, in time for connecting flights or try the highly recommended Horizontal Waterfalls flight & jet boat experience or a Pearl Farm or Crocodile Farm visit, or day trip to Cape Leveque.
