Day 1 – Overland to Kununurra
departing from Darwin
at 700 am (fly to Kununurra options
available  Travel via the Stuart Highway via Adelaide River, and
Katherine, the NT’s 3rd largest town. We turn west on the Victoria
Highway (part of the Savannah Way) and pass through rich cattle country
and spectacular rugged mountain landscapes through Gregory
National Park
to Victoria River and Timber
Creek.
Enjoy views of the Stokes Range. We travel to cross the
NT/WA state border and arrive in Kununurra for overnight. If departing
from Broome
, travel the Savannah Way via
Fitzroy Crossing & Halls Creek to overnight at Mabel Down Station
adjacent Bungle Bungles) LD

Day 2 – Depart 830 am to
experience Kununurra, ‘the eastern gateway to the Kimberley’ and
surroundings by air with a morning scenic flight over the renowned Ord
Irrigation area
, mighty Ord River Scheme and
the enormous man made Lake Argyle before arriving at
the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park)
where you transfer to an air-conditioned 4WD. On your short overland
travels to Cathedral Gorge learn of the Bungle
Bungles heritage and hear some of local nature’s hidden secrets.
Be amazed on your walk into Cathedral Gorge, where
you will be surrounded by the Beehive Domes for
which the park is so famous. Arrival into the gorge displays a
magnificent amphitheatre designed by nature at its best. Relax in this
shaded area and enjoy a memorable picnic lunch before returning on your
walk to rejoin the 4WD. Travel to the Bungle Bungle Bush Camp for
afternoon tea then rejoin the aircraft to complete your afternoon
scenic flight over the ancient Ragged Ranges and the
Argyle Diamond Mine
. Arriving back in Kununurra approx. 500
pm. Day includes easy to moderate 3 km walk into Cathedral Gorge via
the Beehive Domes. Overnight Kununurra or El Questro Station option if
booked.

Day 3 –  Depart
for the Gibb River Road after a diversion to Wyndam,
Parry Lagoon (rich wetlands
with usually Brolgas,
Jabirus, Egrets, waders, Whistling Ducks
and many more) and Five
Rivers lookout
over the Cambridge Gulf.
After lunch at the lookout, we head for
El Questro Station,
a million acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery, rivers and
gorges. Its here that the movie Australia was filmed,
nestled under the Cockburn Ranges.
A
walk and optional swim is possible at El
Questro’s Emma Gorge, or we can check in early tour
accommodation and enjoy the pool and lounge area on the grassy banks of
the Pentecost River, outside our riverside Bungalow cabins at El
Questro Station. BL
Dinner own at expense at
station restaurant.

Day 4  This morning a walk in stunning El
Questro Gorge
is available, or simply relax by the pool or
enjoy riverside walks. Mid morning we relax in warm fresh waters of the

Zebedee hot springs
before lunch by the riverside. At 230 we
depart for an afternoon  1.5 hour
cruise in the Chamberlain
River Gorge.
 Late
afternoon we climb the mountains by 4WD to
Pigeon
Lookout
to view over the Pentecost River.
Overnight at El Questro.

Day 5
There is
plenty of time today for morte relaxing by the pool or additional gorge
walks
before we depart for the approximately 2 hour
drive to Home Valley Station. On the way we travel
under the Cockurn Range escarpments to the Pentecost River
Cossing
.
This
is the widest river crossing in the Kimberely
and
with the ranges behind, the most impressive.

Home
Valley Station
is on the banks of the Durak River (Kings
in Grass Castles fame) and there are numerous waterholes and sites to
explore here. Alternatively a new and modern swimming pool has been
recently buit at the resort centre. Horse riding is also available.
Relax this evening around the pool or bar before retirting in cabin
accommodation. BLD

Day 6 – Departing Home Valley
we stop at
a high vantage point
to view the Cockburn Ranges, Pentcost River and Cambridge Gulf
for the last time, and may access the last Telstra mobile signal for
many days. A roadside stop and a short walk bring us to some special Aboriginal
rock art i
ncluding Wandjina and
Bradshaw (Gion Gion) rock art.
 Todays journey takes us
through varying terrain including high mountains and “jump ups”, and
some great river crossings including the Durak, where we take a break
and as we travel from East to West Kimberley. We arive
around lunch time, so there’s just the right amoiunt of time to enjoy
Ellenbrae’s specialty, Devonshire Tea with jam and scones
mmm. Overnight at Ellenbrae Station and watch out for
those cute little Double Bar finches that live here,
and learn how to tap a boab. BLD

Day
7 –
On the road again we wind
through some pictureque hilly country, and pass over several appealing
creek crossings. Enjoy a morning tea break at a bird lovers billabong.
We take a
break before a left
turn at the Kulumburu Rd
intersection
, and
leave the gibb River Road for the 30 kilomtre drive past Dodnum
Aboriginal community to Mt Elizabeth satation. There is more great rock
art to see here in Wunnumurra Gorge with a
spectacular waterfall and a deep pool and big Wandjina rock art.

Day 8 –  Leaving Mt
Elizabeth we cross the Barnett River and visit Mt Barnett
Roadhouse
at Kupungarri Aboriginal Community.
Just down the road is Galvans Gorge where we take the
800 metre stroll into the gorge for a swim and relax by this beautiful
water hole – with more guardian Wandjina rock art. Travelling through
numerous cattle stations, we arrive at our overnight stop at Imitji
Aboriginal Community
& the Bell Gorge safari camp.
We can rest up here, or travel another 30 km for a walk (and swim) into
popular Bell Gorge. Return to Imitji for evening
meal, and accommodation in our twin share safari ensuite cabins. BLD

Day 9
– Today we climb the King Leopold
Ranges
and travel through the picturesque Inglis Gap and
King Leopold Conservation Park.
We turn off the Gibb for the 50km deviation to Mt Hart
Homestead
located in the heart of the spectacular King
Leopold Ranges Conservation Park. Mt Hart homestead inludes 10 acres of
beautiful gardens alongside the Barker River, rare
flora and fauna, peace and serenity, stunning geological features,
strong sense of pastoral and Aboriginal history, warm bush hospitality.
Our stay includes stylish and comfortable accommodation in heritage
homesteads, three course dinners and breakfast, restaurant, libraries,
private gorges. BLD

Day 10 – Coming down from the ranges, we cross the Lennard
River
and pass through the ancient Devonian era 
Napier Range
at Q
ueen Victoria Pass. Enjoy
morning tea before a

walk in Windjana Gorge
and the National Park

with the abundant wildlife and numerous freshwater crocodiles in
this eerie, ancient seabed environment

– where the mega fauna roamed
. We then travel the scenic and short distance
(with wonderful boab trees) to
nearby Tunnel Creek,
where we walk through this 600 m
etre long underground river system to a
hidden waterhole.

After lunch we continue through the Napier Range (great boab photos
here) via Leoplold Downs to Fitzroy
Crossing Resort

Day 11

– After breakfast enjoy
a relaxing Geike Gorge Fitzroy River cruise and
marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and
river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. Enjoy a morning cuppa
by the river, and comfortable highway cruising toward Derby, to visit
the famous prison Boab tree, and then Derby
highlights including the Derby wharf (30 ft tides!) on King Sound, the
worlds longest cattle drinking trough, the new Mowanjum
Aboriginal Art Centre
(meet the artists, learn and buy from
source) at Mowanjum Aboriginal Community. Depart
Derby for Broome to arrive late afternoon to enjoy sunset at
Cable Beach
over the Indian Ocean, and
possibly an optional camel ride. After tasty treats on Cable Beach, we
enjoy a meal at a local restaurant before overnight in Broome. BLD
