Day 1 –
Flights arrive Uluru around
lunchtime or come the night before for extra time at
Uluru. We arrange to meet you at Yalara or Ayer
Rock Airport. Our afternoon includes a welcome to country and an
introduction to the area at the local Aboriginal Anangu cultural centre. We
have time fro a walk at the rock before viewing the
spectacular sunset. Overnight camp at Yulara resort.
Day 2 - An early start for sunrise and breakfast
at the rock, and some quiet walks in the early morning
stillness. Time for a walk at Kata Tjuta or if your prefer, spend your time
at Uluru. We return to base for lunch then
depart for Kings Canyon, via Curtin Springs and the Mt
Connor lookout. We travel via vegetated rolling sandhills, shady groves of
Desert Oaks then Kings Creek and the George Gill Range. This
evening relax
in camp with the resort facilities.
Day 3 -
After breakfast we travel the 6 km to
Kings Canyon and have options of a
3 hour walk via the “Garden of Eden”,
and the spectacular north and south walls or a
shorter, easier walk via the
valley floor. After lunch depart Kings Canyon via
Earnest Giles Road through this spectacular
Central Deserts landscape. Enjoy a walk at the
energetic Henley Meteorite Craters before arriving Alice Springs
for a meal on the town, and overnight. If joining us in Alice, meet
approximately 6pm Ask about lots to see and do around town before a tasty
dinner and to settle into camp.
Day 4 - Depart Alice Springs at 1pm and travel via Wycliffe Wells, Barrow Creek, the old Overland telegraph stations, Mt Stirling and Ti-tree are significant landmarks before we overnight at the Devils Marbles - great photo opportunities at sunset. The day includes the
Red Sands Gallery one of the best in Central Australia featuring artwork from the renowned Utopia region to the east.
Day
5 - Great early morning photo opportunities with the Devils Marbles, a highlight of this section, so we spend some time here amongst these amazing giant boulders. Aboriginal legend refers to these precariously balanced boulders as the "Eggs of the Rainbow Serpent". Check out and stock up in Tennant Creek. We stop at Three Ways where the road from Mt Isa and Townsville join the Stuart Highway. Here we see the John Flynn memorial (father of the Royal Flying Doctor Service). We cross the Ashburton and Whittington Ranges as we travel via famous outback town of Renner Springs, Lake Woods, Newcastle waters, Daly Water to
Mataranka for a welcome hot springs relax and overnight.
Day 6 - Travel via Katherine (NTs 3rd largest
town) to Kakadu National Park for spectacular walks
by the stunning Nourlangie Rock art. Overnight Cooinda.
Day
7 - Board the early boat on the Yellow Waters to cruise amongst extraordinary birdlife and crocodiles in this World Heritage listed wetlands. Visit Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Bowali Visitor Centre.
We visit the Window on the Wetlands tranquil
viewing area that supports abundant bird life. Travel via Humpty Doo and Fogg Dam. Viewing
location of Ranger Uranium Mine which is located within the World Heritage National Park near Jabiru.
Arrive in Darwin for farewells. BL
