I’m Richard O’Neill, founder of Spirit Safaris. For over 30 years, I’ve dedicated my life to taking small, micro groups of travellers deep into the Australian outback and wilderness areas — often places most tour buses simply can’t reach. In modern, comfortable, premium four-wheel-drive Landcruisers, we explore remote terrains that reveal the true essence of Australia.
Right now, there’s something extraordinary happening that doesn’t come around often: Lake Eyre is flooding at the highest level in decades. This once-in-a-lifetime event transforms Australia’s driest place into a shimmering inland sea, attracting wildlife and colors that most people will never witness in their lifetime. It might be years before it happens again, making our 2026 and into 2027 Lake Eyre tours specially crafted to maximize this unique opportunity.
Tours run with just 2 to 4 adults per vehicle, ensuring an intimate experience where you can connect with fellow travellers and your guide.
2027 and 2026 tours are now scheduled — take a look here →
The breathtaking scenery and ecological diversity during this period are unmatched. Imagine witnessing the vast expanses of water reflecting the blue sky and the vibrant greens of the surrounding landscape, a sight that will be etched in your memory forever.

Throughout your journey, you’ll encounter diverse ecosystems and breathtaking landscapes, from the rugged beauty of the outback to the lush wetlands that come alive with the floodwaters.
Take the opportunity to witness native wildlife in their natural habitat is an added bonus of traveling during this time, as many creatures that thrive in these environments emerge and showcase their vibrant behaviors.
We ensure that every tour is not only enjoyable but also educational, with knowledgeable guides who share fascinating insights into the flora and fauna, as well as the geological history of the regions we visit.
The cultural significance of these areas provides an enriching experience, as you learn about Aboriginal heritage and the connection between the land and its original inhabitants.

Campsites
Desert Camping – Canning Stock Route, Palm Valley and Glen Helen
Many areas we stay have modern facilities including laundries, ironing, toilets and showers – this includes Yulara (Uluru), Alice Springs, Broome, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek, Broken Hill, Copley, and other major towns.
Camping in remote areas such as shown above is a special opportunity and real gift of outback travel – often just you and no-one – for great clarity of mind. Areas like this include Tanami Track and the Western Deserts. Here we may find a wonderful waterhole or river for swimming.
Generally Central Australian winter travel is cool and dry – and each day is a refreshing new experience. Ask those who know after more than 40,000 years doing it.
We carry portable hot showers for use in remote areas.

Compare Kimberley Tours with this Comparison Table
Which Kimberley tour is right for You ?
Now you have been able to compare Kimberley tours, which one is right for you — 7, 8 or 10 days?
All three of these tours departing from Broome share the same legendary core route: Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Fitzroy Crossing / Geikie Gorge, the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu), El Questro, and the best swimming gorges on the Gibb River Road.
The difference is how many bucket-list icons you add on top.
Extra days can also be added with relaxing days and nights in Broome for beach, poolsides, Pearl Farm
All Kimberley tours include walks that suit a moderate level of fitness and you can choose at the time to do or not. The Mitchell Falls walk on 8 or 10 day tours can be substituted with a helicopter flight.
The 7 Day Kimberley Tour — “The Classic Kimberley Greatest Hits”
Choose the 7 Day if you want the authentic Gibb River Road experience in a tight, high-value itinerary:
- The key gorges, walks and swims
- Bungles + El Questro highlights
- A strong mix of scenery, culture and comfort
- Ideal if you’re short on time, or doing Kimberley as part of a bigger WA trip
Best for: first-time Kimberley travellers, time-poor professionals, value-driven adventurers.
The 8 Day Kimberley Tour — “Add Mitchell Falls (the WOW day)”
Choose the 8 Day if you want everything in the 7 Day tour plus the iconic Mitchell Falls day:
- Scenic flight from Broome to the Mitchell Plateau region
- Guided walk, rock art/cultural context, swim opportunities
- Helicopter scenic over the falls & gorge system
This is the most common “upgrade” because it adds a true once-in-a-lifetime highlight without extending into extra coastal tour days.
Best for: guests who want a standout hero experience (Mitchell Falls) without going all the way to 10 days.
The 10 Day Kimberley Tour — “The Ultimate Kimberley Bucket List”
Choose the 10 Day if you want the full Kimberley story — land, air, coast, and culture:
- Everything in the 8 Day (including Mitchell Falls)
- Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm, Dampier Peninsula & Cape Leveque (when open) day
- Horizontal Falls adventure (flight + on-water experience)
If you’re travelling a long way to get here, this is the version where you tick off the Kimberley’s most famous icons in one seamless package.
Best for: retirees / empty nesters doing a “big trip”, milestone birthdays/anniversaries, and travellers who want the full premium Kimberley experience.
