Canning Stock Route Alternative Tour Update 2021

The WA government has officially closed the Canning Stock Route indefinitely for 2021 hence this Canning Stock Route Alternative Tour Update 2021. The government says they are reviewing monthly, but WA has a record of fast shut downs.

With this much uncertainty, we have provided alternatce tours via Simpson Desert as follows from Broome return and from Alice Springs return.

Alternative tour tour that fit into the same dates from Broome to Broome and includes Wolfe Creek Crater, Tanami Track to Alice Springs, with Newhaven wildlife sanctuary, remote Aboriginal art centres, Alice Springs, Chambers Pillar, Mt Dare, Dalhousie Springs, Simpson Desert, Birdsville, Plenty Highway, Devils Marbles, Daly Waters, Wave Hill (Victoria-Daly Region), Old Halls Creek to Broome. This tour would be the same cost.

Newhaven Sanctuary & Tanami Track Broome to Alice Springs Tour Eastbound includes  Newhaven 2 nights, Geike Gorge cruise on Fitzroy River, Outback Art, Wolfe Creek Crater, Balgo, Warlukurlangu artists at Yuendumu,  Tillmouth Wells art gallery, Balgo Art Community. Departs Mondays 1pm after lunch, completes Saturday after rock art site & lunch in Alice Springs. Includes 2 nights at Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary. Price includes 5 nights comfy camping OR add 1 or 2 nights accommodation upgrade available at Fitzroy Crossing or Tillmouth Well for $250 twin room/night). Also option to add last night in Alice Springs motel, with breakfast add $280 twin room.

Sample days on tour..

Day 2 – After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual massive flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. After a morning cuppa, and comfortable highway cruising we enjoy lunch at a spectacular local lookout, on the major songline that crosses the Tanami Desert. Time permitting we stop in at Yiyili Aboriginal Art centre (beautiful colourful & contemporary artworks for sale here) and Halls Creek for last supplies before the Tanami Track. Late afternoon we arrive at Wolfe Creek Crater in time for a crater walk and set up camp prior to a spectacular Kimberley sunset over Wolfe Creek Crater. BLD

Day 3 – A chance this morning for stunning photos and memories at sunrise of Wolfe Creek Crater, the worlds second largest meteorite crater. Local stories say this is where the rainbow serpent entered the Earth. You can take a walk in the crater or enjoy the view from the crater rim. After a healthy breakfast, we take the Tanami Track to Billiluna Aboriginal community on the edge of the Canning Stock Route, before visiting the Balgo community & Balgo Aboriginal Art centre to witness artist sin action and, some wonderful and unique art styles of the western deserts available to purchase at significant discounts from the local artists. We lunch enjoying the spectacular view over the Balgo Hills and mesas stretching into the western deserts – The Great Sandy Desert & Gibson Deserts. This afternoon we make camp near Rabbit Flat for our overnight camp in the real Never Never, under a brilliant starry sky, and see the Milky Way and the heavens like never before. BLD
