Itinerary
Day 1 – Broome to Marble Bar
Depart Broome at about 8am, south through cattle station country via Sandfire and Pardoo and across the De Grey River to historic Marble Bar. Explore the jasper bar of the Coongan River, Chinaman’s Pool and Marble Bar Pool. Dinner at the gold-rush era Iron Clad Hotel. Overnight Marble Bar (B L D).
Day 2 – Comet Gold Mine to Karijini
Visit the Comet Gold Mine and its gem and mineral displays, then travel through the eastern Pilbara to Karijini National Park. Explore Dales Gorge, Fortescue Falls, Fern Pool and Circular Pool Lookout. Overnight Karijini Eco Retreat (B L D).
Day 3 – Karijini National Park
A full day in Karijini. Depending on weather, conditions and the group, this may include Oxer Lookout and Weano, Hancock, Joffre and Knox Gorges. Overnight Karijini Eco Retreat (B L D).
Day 4 – Tom Price mine tour to Nanutarra
Travel through the Hamersley Ranges to Tom Price for the guided Rio Tinto mine tour (about 2 hours), then west through remote station country to Nanutarra on the Ashburton River. Overnight Nanutarra (B L D). If you skip the mine tour, timing allows 2 nights in Exmouth.
Day 5 – Exmouth and the Ningaloo Coast
From red Pilbara country to the turquoise Ningaloo Coast. Options include a glass bottom boat cruise or swim on the Ningaloo Reef, the Yardie Creek boat tour, or a swim with whale sharks (extra cost), plus the Jurabi Turtle Sanctuary, Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, Cape Range National Park and Turquoise Bay. Overnight Exmouth (B L D).
Day 6 – Exmouth to Karratha
A last look at the North West Cape, perhaps Charles Knife Canyon, then north through station country to Karratha. Visit the Red Dog Memorial and the Dampier foreshore. Overnight Karratha (B L D).
Day 7 – Murujuga, Roebourne and Port Hedland
Explore the World Heritage-listed Murujuga cultural landscape on the Burrup Peninsula, with some of the world’s densest collections of Aboriginal rock art, then historic Cossack and Roebourne, and on to Port Hedland and its huge iron ore port. Overnight Port Hedland (B L D).
Day 8 – 80 Mile Beach to Broome
North via Pardoo and Sandfire, with a walk on 80 Mile Beach, arriving in Broome late afternoon (B L).
