rain falls in March 2012 have flooded regions around
Lake Eyre & will revitalize wildlife again !! One location near Marree is reported to
have received 12 inches (300 mm) of rain in a few
days. New rains in western catchments of the Neales River NT
& Diamantina River QLD catchments. Lake Eyre
South is nearly full (at 2m) and Madigan Gulf is
expected to reach 500 mm, with Halligan Bay
expected to reach 1.8 m.

minute Lake Eyre flight (longer flights available) over Lake Eyre from
Marree, which includes Warburton Groove (the major
inflow), Elliot Price Conservation Park, major
islands & landmarks. PLUS 4WD with wildlife
& bird watching to Level Post Bay & Donald
Campbell Memorial at Lake Eyre National Park
on shores of Lake Eyre via Muloorina Station. A Painted Hills
flight (from William Creek) is available on some tours if
booked.
On
our Lake Eyre tours an extended flight is available
(2 hours 40 minutes total – an extra 40 minutes on the already included
1.5 hrs flight). This extra half hour takes you over the Birdsville
Track to the punt at the Cooper Creek crossing (not
flooded for 20 years). Here you see more birds and vast
wetlands on the floodplain area. The flight then follows the
Cooper Creek to Lake Eyre to view the lake as per the 1 1/2 hr flight.
All travellers love this highlight of the trip.

Day 1 –
From Broken Hill
pickup 8 am from your accommodation via remote
saltbush country then rural mountain scenery as we travel the Barrier
Highway then via the historic railway town of Peterborough,
then Hawker & the Flinders Ranges to Wilpena
Pound. Our journey takes us through rural SA to enjoy picturesque
roadside stops for lunch and a morning and afternoon teas. Visit
historic Hawker (Ghan Town) before arrival at Wilpena
Pound resort for our cosy overnight stop. Enjoy a sunset walk
with the kangaroos amongst the ancient Red River Gums L, D
Flinders
Ranges – Wilpena Pound from the air
Day 2
– This morning we recommend the spectacular optional scenic
flight over Wilpena Pound. There’s time also to enjoy
the Wangarra Lookout & Hills Homestead walk into the
Pound. We leave Wilpena and travel over the range via the Brachina
Gorge Geological Trailwhere
the oldest rocks (and complex life) in the world have been identified. Visit historic Parachilna
Pub then Farina Ghan railway town ruins before travel on to
Marree. Check out the ancient mosque and Ghan railway history. Overnight Marree. B,L,D
Day 3
– From Marree we take a 1 1/2 hour 9or optional 2.5 hrs) scenic
flight over Lake Eyre. We
visit and walk by the lake shore and connect with the wonder
of the bird and plant life revitalise by recent flooding rains. We
travel the Oodnadatta Track following the Old
Ghan Railway via various Old Ghan railway bridges and sidings from
the Ghan hey days. We arrive Coward Springs (an old Ghan rail
town) for an optional dip in the hot springs and cross the path of the
old Overland Telegraph Line. We detour off the
Oodnadatta Track to visit the Bubbler & Blanche Cup at the Wabma
Kadarbu Mound Springs Conservation Park. At William Creek an optional Painted Desert flight is
available and enjoy the collection of “space junk” collected from the Woomera
Rocket range. This afternoon we enter the moonscape of the
world’s largest opal mining town of Coober Pedy and visit Coober Pedy’s underground
museum of opal mining, before we enjoy
a local restaurant meal (own cost), and a cosy underground bed dug in
the earth the opal mining way. B,L,D
Day 4- Heading north on the Stuart
Highway desert travel lets you appreciate the remote and vast
outback. Witness modern “oasis” outback stations and transport
roadhouses like Marla, Kulgera & Ernabella on
this great Stuart Highway connecting Australia’s north and
south – Adelaide to Darwin as explored by
John McDouall Stuart. Marvel as we stop to view Mt
Connor looming large in the desert landscape. Arrive at Yulara and Uluru for
sunset and friendly meal in local venue. Overnight Uluru B,L,D

Day 5 – Sunrise
at Uluru. Breakfast by the rock. Visit
to Aboriginal cultural centre. Meet local Aboriginal
elder and welcome to country. Walk at Kata Tjuta “Valley
of the Winds”. Lunch at Kata Tjuta.
Witness the majestic sunset at Uluru. Uluru base walks. Campfire
and evening meal. Community elders meetings when available. Overnight

6 – Uluru base walk or more time relaxing and absorbing the
culture at Yulara. Tour ends 10 am – options to extend time for
