Australia's most remote outback route - connecting 1/2 the country, crossing 2 states, WA to NT - from Broome & the Indian Ocean to the Red Centre & Alice Springs via Halls Creek. A major songline connecting country, and nearly 1000 kms of dirt through remote communities including Yuendumu, Tanami Hills, The Granites, Rabbit Flat, by Balgo and the beautiful Balgo Hills, spectacular Wolfe Creek Crater (the worlds second largest meteorite crater where the rainbow serpent entered the Earth) to Halls Creek and more art communities.
East Bound Journeys Broome to Alice Springs - via Tanami Track - includes Outback Art, Wolfe Creek Crater, Yuendumu, Balgo Art Community Arrive a day or 2 day prior for optional day trips - see Broome Tours Day 1 - 29 August - Enjoy an early swim at Cable Beach and leisurely morning and early lunch to depart Broome after lunch time flights arrive. - approx 12 pm (hotel pickup confirmed). We travel through sweeping Kimberley grasslands and cattle country and cross the flood plains of the Fitzroy River. Enjoy an afternoon cuppa tea under a majestic boab tree, and a look in at the local lifestyles, and start to sense the spirit of this wide open county as we witness stunning mesa landscapes (great photo opportunities). Afternoon sees us check in at our accommodation at Fitzroy Crossing before a relaxing night and tasty evening meal, with a chance to meet some of the locals. Day 2 - After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. After a morning cuppa, and comfortable highway cruising we enjoy lunch at a spectacular local lookout, on the major songline that crosses the Tanami. Time permitting we stop in at Yiyili Aboriginal Art centre (beautiful colourful & contemporary artworks for sale here) and Halls Creek for last supplies before the Tanami Track. Late afternoon we arrive at Wolf Creek crater in time for a crater walk and set up camp prior to a spectacular Kimberley sunset in the desert. Day 3 - A chance this morning for stunning photos and memories at sunrise of Wolfe Creek Crater, the worlds second largest meteorite crater. Local stories say this is where the rainbow serpent entered the Earth. You can take a walk in the crater or enjoy the view from the crater rim. After a healthy breakfast we take the Tanami Track to Billiluna Aboriginal community on the edge of the Canning Stock Route, before visiting the Balgo Art centre for some wonderful unique art styles and bargains from the local artists. late afternoon we arrive at Rabbit Flat for a welcome shower and overnight camp in the real no-where. Day 4 - Travel today takes us by the by the great Tanami and Granites gold mines, and old abandoned wells from gold rush & cattle droving days. These are some of the remotest parts of Australia - a great place to reflect on our existence and experience the vastness and vitality of life - even in the desert. After lunch at Rena Springs we're ready for more art bargains from the Warlukurlangu artists at Yuendumu, and a look around at this large and unique outback community. Travel on to Tillmouth Wells for a welcome shower and restful overnight camp. Day 5 - An easy start to the morning allows us to reflect on our experience at our oasis on the desert. A wide range of well priced art is available here from surrounding communities including Mt Allan, Papunya, Yuendumu. We may even meet some of the artists with their special offers. Late morning we head for Alice Springs, arriving in the afternoon in time to see the sights of Alice. Overnight Alice Springs Day 6 - September 2 - Now in the big smoke, you can explore the Araluen Art centre or other fabulous galleries of Alice Springs, or other sites such as Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of the Air, historic Overland Telegraph Station, all with the backdrop of the mighty MacDonnell Ranges - or just soak up this special atmosphere. Tour ends after breakfast in time for lunchtime flights. This is a small group adventure learning journeys … connecting and re-creating with the land and locals.
