Australia's most remote outback route - connecting 1/2 the country, crossing 2 states, NT to WA - from the Red Centre to the Indian Ocean - Alice Springs to Halls Creek and on to Broome. A major songline connecting country, and nearly 1000 kms of dirt through remote communities including Yuendumu, Tanami Hills, The Granites, Rabbit Flat, passing by Balgo and the beautiful Balgo Hills, spectacular Wolfe Creek Crater (the worlds second largest meteorite crater where the rainbow serpent entered the Earth) to Halls Creek and more art communities.
Westbound Journey July 3 - July 8 For Eastbound Click link Alice Springs to Broome - via Tanami Track - Westbound - Outback Art, Wolfe Creek Crater, Yuendumu, Balgo Art Community Day 1 - Depart Alice Springs for Tanami Track at 1pm (we meet 1pm flight from Sydney or other ports). A three hour journey heads you toward some of the remotest country in Australia. Enjoy the rich collection of Aboriginal art available here at Tillmouth Wells - including from Mt Allan, Papunya, Yuendumu. Overnight Tillmouth Wells camp roadhouse & campground. Day 2 - Visit the world famous Warlukurlangu artists at Yuendumu, and meet the artists at work. You can buy their art directly from source. After a good connection with the locals, we "up the track" through this extraordinary and remote country - by the great Tanami and Granites gold mines, and old abandoned wells from gold rush & cattle droving days to Rabbit Flat Roadhouse to stock up on essentials then to our camp site for overnight in the real nowhere. Day 3 - Arrive at Balgo Art Community and head for the art centre to meet the artists at work. Enjoy meeting the artists, the warm local hospitality and the rich and unique art pieces on display - ready for you to purchase at best bargain rates direct from the source if you wish. Depart Balgo for nearby Balgo Hills and our Lake Gregory campsite by the famous Canning Stock Route. Overnight here under the stars. Day 4 - After a look around lake Gregory we travel the Canning Stock Route to Billiluna Aboriginal community and cattle station for a look around then a short drive to the amazing Wolfe Creek Crater - the worlds second largest meteorite crater where the rainbow serpent entered the Earth. We can take a walk in the crater or enjoy the view from the crater rim. Overnight camp at majestic Wolfe Creek crater. Day 5 - View the sunrise over Wolfe Creek Crater - or enjoy a sleep in - before we head for a brief stop at Halls Creek (more wonderful Aboriginal art) then Yiyili Aboriginal Art centre (beautiful colourful & contemporary artworks here - time permitting) at Louisa Downs station on to Fitzroy Crossing via spectacular McClintock & Mueller mountain ranges, and vast cattle stations (including Kidman & Co's "Ruby Plains") for overnight at Fitzroy Crossing. Day 6 - After breakfast enjoy a relaxing Geike Gorge river cruise on the vast Fitzroy River, and marvel at the high cliffs, annual flood records, stunning wildlife and river tales from our knowledgeable local guide. After a morning cuppa, and some comfortable highway cruising we enjoy lunch under one of the biggest boab trees in the Kimberley on the Savannah Way. On through stunning mesa landscape and rich grasslands we arrive in Broome for sunset at Cable Beach and an optional swim in the Indian Ocean at sunset. Day 7 - Breakfast at Cable Beach - Tour ends after breakfast. Option to join next sector (Gibb River Rd) or experience Mowanjum Festival in Derby. This is a small group adventure learning journeys … connecting and re-creating with the land and locals. You become part of the re-creation of country and culture.
