Festival tour Depart Broome July 5 Overnights in Derby for the Mowanjum Festival main event, then departs Friday up the Gibb River Rd. ART & ROCK ART Festival Day 0 - Wednesday 4 July - FREE NIGHT IF BOOKED EARLY - Choose to arrive early in Broome and relax in the balmy warm air - Cable Beach always recommended or check out the pearls and fascinating Broome history. We meet you late afternoon to settle into camp and share sunset at Cable Beach and a delicious evening meal. Ask about this extra day and activities. Day 1 - Thursday 5 July - Depart from Broome approx 1 pm (meets flights - allows morning swim !). Visit the notorious prison Boab tree, and worlds longest drinking trough, the new Mowanjum Art Centre (meet the artists, learn and buy from source), and Mowanjum Aboriginal Community. Meet the locals and after dinner, settle into the Mowanjum Festival cultural highlights. Day 2 - Depart from Derby, for Bush University camp at Murunbabidi via Imitji Aboriginal community and Mt Barnett Roadhouse before meeting Ngarinyin Aboriginal community at Murunbabidi campsite. Meet Ngarinyin Aboriginal community and Bush University elders here. Enjoy a healthy meal and settle in to community. Day 2–5 - Gatherings with elders, kids & community - Share the dreamtime and the now time with Bush University elders. ROCK ART Explore key issues of country and community, and the value and wisdom in the art and rock art of the Kimberley. Here is your opportunity to connect with some of the most significant issues of our times, and really understand the foundations of resilience and community learnings from ancient rock art, and it's messages carried through modern art, song and dance - celebrated at the Mowanjum Art Centre and Festival. You personal interests, input and capabilities welcome. Days at Murunbabidi consist of formal morning gatherings with afternoon visits to significant Wandjina and Bradshaw/Gwion Gwion art sites. Days include learning bush foods and medicines, lore and language. Evening returns to camp, for meal and campfire. Day 6 – Morning with Ngarinyin then travel to our Mitchell Plateau camp, passing through spectacular vegetation including pandanas palms and rainforests. Day 7 - Morning walk to Mitchell Falls via spectacular pools and waterfalls. View Bradshaw (Gion Gion) rock art sites and swim in these beautiful clear fresh waters. Thrill with a spectacular helicopter ride over the falls. This is one of the most remote areas of Australia. Overnight on Mitchell Plateau. Day 8 – Head down the Kalumburu Rd to Gibb River Rd junction and travel on to overnight at Gibb River station, and Aboriginal owned working cattle station.

Day 9 - On the road again via King Leopold Range, Queen Victoria Pass before a stop at Imitji roadhouse. On to Enjoy a walk in mystical Windjana Gorge at this special creation “waterhole” formed by an ancient Devonian Reef – meet the crocodiles ! in this eerie, ancient seabed environment. Overnight Windjana Gorge. Day 10 - Windjana Gorge to Broome, calling at Mowanjum Community & Art centre for some special memories and souvenirs. Arrive Broome for evening sunset at Cable Beach and farewell dinner. Day 11 - Sunday July 15 - Tour ends after a swim and hearty breakfast at Cable Beach Includes small group modern 4 wheel drive vehicles, camping gear, fees, side trips, all meals. Percent of cost supports Aboriginal community and nature re-creation projects. Inclusions Special time with elders for women's business / men's business / and even kids business. Helicopter ride over Mitchell Falls Small group (max 8 per vehicle, 15 in group) allows access to remote locations and personal service and attention Celebration dinner at journey end.
