| The Hero’s Journey The Heroic Journey goes a bit like this: We get born, have all sorts of adventures, excitements, traumas… develop all sorts of beliefs, assumptions and attitudes about who we are and how the world is, and eventually arrive at adulthood thinking we know how it all works. We head out into the world with our dreams and expectations searching for Happiness, Success and Fulfillment. After a while, we discover that the world doesn’t actually work quite the way we want it to… things go wrong, and the Happiness, Success and Fulfillment are somewhat elusive. As long as we remain in our egoic stage of consciousness, we get by, making judgments about how crazy the world is, how ‘stuffed-up’ other people are, and console ourselves with a bunch of ‘if only’s’… “If only I’d got that new job…” “If only my partner really understood me…” “If only my parents hadn’t done…” “If only xxxx was different…” Eventually we can’t stand it any more… maybe we develop some major crisis, maybe we drop into a deep well of despair, maybe we get sick… there are hundreds of ways of playing out our egoic dysfunctionality, but eventually a delicate flame starts burning somewhere deep inside and a small but compassionate voice whispers “Surely, there must be a better way.” We start searching, and with luck we find people who do know a better way and are willing to help and guide. The next part of the journey requires of us to free ourselves from the compulsive, egoic-based behaviours that have run things to date. It’s brave and courageous work, as it requires revisiting the pain and hurts from the past. It also requires that we get back in touch with our bodies and come to terms with uncomfortable feelings. This is indeed courageous and honourable work, and certainly worthy of the title ‘heroic’. As we do this heroic work, we develop Emotional Intelligence (EQ), and over time we free ourselves from our egoic cage and in the process develop qualities of Autonomy, Authenticity, Spontaneity, Intentionality, Creativity and Full-heartedness. We also establish ourselves in the 5th Stage of Consciousness: Trans-Egoic Witness Consciousness. Life becomes freer, we have more choice and generally relationships become more enjoyable. But of course, the journey doesn’t stop there. There’s more…. The next Step on the Hero’s Journey is to fully establish yourself in the 6th Stage: Transpersonal Love Illumination Consciousness. For this you will require a new and different set of skills. This new set of skills, ‘Spiritual Intelligence’ (SQ), is best developed after doing the ‘crusty’ EQ work so the egoic stuff doesn’t get in the way too much. One of the best ways to develop Spiritual Intelligence is through the up-take of spiritual practices and in particular, regular Compassion Practices. As the capacity for Compassion develops, so do the connections to Happiness, Success and Fulfilment. Spirit Safaris acknowledge and facilitates the hero's journey to higher consciousness, compassion and wholeness by connecting you with the void via the vast outback, your inner knowing and the greater Universe - you can even meet your reflection in the billions of stars above. “A human being is part of the whole called by us 'universe,' a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts, and feelings as something separate from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few people nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” Albert Einstein
