Arrive earlier to revel at the Darwin Festival and the many rich cultural activities. See the fabulous art on display and meet us at the Telstra Art awards night at Darwin Museum and Art Gallery. Day 1 - August 17 Sunday - Travel south on the Stuart Highway through this rich cattle country to and spectacular rugged mountain landscapes to Gregory National Park. Enjoy Kuwang Lookout & views of the Stokes Range and an insight into the Aboriginal people who have resided here for thousands of years. We travel on through Timber Creek and cross the NT/WA state border. Visit Kununurra and the mini Bungle Bungles (Mirima Hidden Valley National Park). Time permitting we visit Lake Argyle and the Ord River scheme. Overnight Kununurra. Day 2 - After a hearty breakfast travel on through spectacular rugged mountain landscapes to Warnum art centre (Turkey Creek). Meet the artists and find some bargain art. Enter the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park) for our overnight camp.
Day 3 - Marvel at this high energy amazing orange and black striped beehive landscape formed by giant river systems. Walk the spectacular Cathedral cave, Piccanninny Creek and later a walk in Echidna Gorge. Optional Scenic flights available. Overnight in the Bungle Bungles. Day 4 - We farewell the Bungle Bungles and head for El Questro, a 1,000,00 acres of spectacular Kimberley scenery and gorges. On the way we visit a very unique and powerful Aboriginal art site, and time permitting Wyndham. Late afternoon we can relax by the river at our El Questro camp. Day 5 - This morning soak up the Zebedee hot springs, before exploring more of the El Questro treats - like Emma Gorge or Moonshine Gorge. Overnight at El Questro. Day 6 - Travel the scenic and spectacular Gibb River Road via Cockburn Range, fording the mighty Pentecost River. We take aright at Kulumburu Rd, visit the famous working cattle station - Drysdale River Station. After lunch travel through spectacular vegetation including cycads, pandanas palms and rainforests and ford the King Edward River before our overnight camp on Mitchell Plateau.
Day 7 - Morning walk to Mitchell Falls via spectacular swimming pools and waterfalls. View Bradshaw (Gion Gion) rock art sites and swim in these beautiful clear fresh waters. Thrill with a spectacular helicopter ride over the falls for a once in a lifetime view of this vast landscape. This is one of the most remote areas of Australia. Overnight on Mitchell Plateau. Day 8 - Leaving Mitchell Plateau we visit more rock art or simply savour this lush creative environment. Back down the Gibb River Rd and a stop at Mt Barnett Roadhouse before our camp at Manning Gorge and a welcome swim in the waterhole. Day 9 - A morning walk to Manning Gorge waterfalls for a swim and bask in this pristine environment. Today we meet local Ngarinyin Aboriginal elders and share the rock art and dreamtime stories with Bush University elders to learn of issues of country, kids and community. Sharings include rock art site, bush foods and medicines, lore and language. Evening returns to camp, for meal and campfire. Overnight Manning Gorge. Day 10 – Depart via spectacular rugged mountain ranges, via Imitji Aboriginal community before an afternoon walk in Windjana Gorge with the abundant wildlife and numerous freshwater crocodiles in this eerie, ancient seabed environment. Day 11 - Nearby is Tunnel Creek, where we walk through this underground river system to a waterhole and Aboriginal rock art. Our day includes a tasty picnic lunch and optional swim in the waterhole before we call in to the new Mowanjum Art Centre (meet the artists, learn and buy from source) at the Mowanjum Aboriginal Community. See some of the biggest Boabs in the Kimberley including the infamous Prison Tree near Derby and worlds longest drinking trough. Arrive Broome late afternoon to overnight at Cable Beach camp area. Day 12 - 28 August - Morning swim and breakfast at Cable Beach. Tour ends after breakfast. We recommend to take a scenic flight to the Horizontal Waterfalls or visit a Pearl farm, or simply shop or relax in Broome's balmy climate. Consider travelling with us to Alice Springs via the Tanami Track, Wolfe Creek Crater and art centres.
