Travel
with us from Broome or Darwin to Alice Springs via Kakadu National Park - Hot
springs, cool waterholes.
Day 1 (June
28, 2009 or October
8) – Depart from Darwin
travel via Humpty Doo & Fogg Dam to visit the Window on the Wetlands viewing
area
-
a tranquil area that sports abundant bird life. Possible viewing and/or
visit to Ranger Uranium Mine which is located within the World Heritage
National Park. Arrive Cooinda for overnight – optional sunset river cruise.
Day
2 - Board the Yellow Waters Cruise with extraordinary birdlife &
crocodiles in this World Heritage listed wetlands. Visit
rock art at the Nourlangie Rock walk. Optional flight over wetlands and sunset at
Ubirr Rock (time permitting) Dinner & Overnight Cooinda
Day
3 - Depart via Mary River for Pine Creek, an historic gold
mining and railway town. Visit Edith Falls if time permits before a
river cruise in Katherine Gorge. Visit to the Cutta Cutta
caves. Arrive Mataranka and see the “We of the Never Never” homestead
before relaxing in the nearby healing thermal springs. Overnight
Elsey National Park near Mataranka.
Day
4 - Another early relax in the hot springs is possible before departing down
the Stuart Highway via Daly Waters, Newcastle Waters,
Lake Woods and
Renner Springs before crossing the Ashburton & Whittington Ranges. We stop
at Three Ways where the road from Mt Isa and Townsville join the Stuart
Highway. Here we see the John Flynn memorial (Flynn was the father of
the Royal Flying Doctor Service). Check out Tennant Creek
(gold country)
before sunset and overnight at the Devils Marbles.
Day 5
- The Devils Marbles are a highlight of this section, so we spend some
time here amongst these amazing giant boulders.
Aboriginal legend refers to these
precariously balanced boulders as the "Eggs of the Rainbow Serpent". Wycliffe
Wells, Barrow Creek,
the Stuart Memorial, Mt Stirling and Ti-Tree are
significant landmarks before we roll into Alice Springs in the
afternoon – having travelled half way across Australia.
On our way, the
Red Sands Gallery is one of the best in Central Australia featuring
Aboriginal art from the renowned Utopia region to the east.
Dinner & Overnight Alice
Springs.
Day 6
– (July 3 or Oct 13) - Wake up in Alice Springs, with plenty
to explore here, including
great Aboriginal Art galleries and local shops, or sightseeing
including the Araluen Centre, Royal Flying Doctor Service, School of
the Air, Overland Telegraph Station. Tour ends 8am after
breakfast.

TWO DAYS
(6 & 7) available for relaxing in the clear Central Australian climate
before Tanami Track departure (if travelling July) or OPTIONAL DAY TRIPS to Chambers
Pillar (overnight option) & Rainbow Valley or Palm Valley
and Hermannsburg.
